Recital for Beginners

Posted: Oct 22, 2013

With all the recent talk of recital ticket sales, it's safe to assume that many of you--especially those of you new to the studio--have questions regarding the performance. Plenty of additional information will be sent out in the coming weeks, but for now, here are the basics:

Excalibur stages two recitals each season, our Holiday Recital and a Year End Recital in June. Tickets are now on sale for the Holiday Recital, scheduled for Saturday, November 16th. See our recent mailout for ticket pricing. Seating is assigned and limited, so don't wait too long before visiting the office during business hours (3-6:30pm Mon-Fri and 9am-2pm Sat) to purchase tickets.

Each recital takes place in Vanier Hall at Prince George Secondary School (PGSS). There will be three performances on November 16th, organized by age group. Again, see the previous email for the relevant information.

All students are invited to perform! Each class currently on the 2013/14 schedule will have a spot in the appropriate program. If a student chooses NOT to perform, or if you simply cannot attend your recital, that's okay too. Just let us know ASAP as instructors will likely have to adjust their choreography (each class is currently working on a dance for the performance).

Performance order. Prior to recital, we will distribute a list for each show detailing the order of the performance (when each class will be on stage). This will allow you to determine if your student is dancing near the beginning, middle, or at the end of a show.

Each student will be given a costume. This will occur closer to recital. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you try on your costume as soon as you receive it and contact Shoppe staff should there be any issues. You will also be given instructions on how to prepare hair and make-up, if necessary.

Highland students! There are a few important differences that our highland families need be aware of: You will NOT be provided a costume, as you will be wearing either your own kilt or a kilt that you rent from the Dance Shoppe. If you need to rent, visit the ladies in the Dance Shopper as soon as possible. Also, your classes may NOT be preparing a specific choreography, as you will likely be performing one or more of the traditional highland dances you have been working this semester. For the most part, highland dancers will perform in the age-appropriate recital, with students from their class. There are a few exceptions: The Intro Highland 7-12 class will be performing in two shows; the 12pm AND the 3pm. The Nov/Prem Teen class will be performing in all three shows; 10am, noon and 3pm. If, for whatever reason, you are unable to perform in multiple performances, please let us know sooner than later.

Musical Theatre! The Friday Musical Theatre 7-12 class will be performing in BOTH the noon and 3pm shows, allowing your families to decide which they would prefer to attend as audience members. As with the highland classes above, if you are unable to perform in multiple performances, please let us know ASAP.

When do I show up? Where do I go? What do I do?? Don't worry, all of this will be made clear in the days and weeks ahead. :) You will receive detailed info on arrival times, pre-show preparation, and where you need to be before, during, and after the show.

Recital can be hectic and overwhelming at first, but it's also very rewarding, and we'll do our best to make your recital experience an enjoyable one! If you have any additional questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
